Ereader of choice?
Posted on 25. Jan, 2010 by JD in News, Video, blog
Just got an email from my peeps at BeBook – they put out the BeBook and BeBook Mini and they’re based in Australia, so by my reckoning that makes them the only Oz ereader distributor/company.
Anyway, it seems they’re releasing a new version of the BeBook, with wireless access to multiple stores. I think this will be big.
Given the start of forays into DRM-free electronic publishing, and Apple’s looming itablet product launch, which you would assume (given Steve Jobs’s anti-DRM stance) is likely to become a DRM-free ebook/emag content player, DRM-free ePub and/or PDF is the market to target.
Can’t wait to get my hands on this one – it’s launching in March, according to the presser below, but I’ve already requested one to review here.
Yikes – it will cost $625, but if it allows users to shop around, rabid ebook buyers may save the extra cost back quite quickly.
Stay tuned. Here’s some video to whet your appetite.

World’s first WiFi ereader with access to eBook stores worldwide.
Endless Ideas, specialists in eReader technology, today launches its exciting new eBook reader the BeBook Neo.
After our successful models ‘BeBook One’ and the pocket sized ‘BeBook Mini’ we collected suggestions from our customers and packed them into a new attractive eReader.
The BeBook Neo is using the latest patented ePaper E Ink technology for an amazing reading experience. Read anything, anytime, anywhere.
The powerful processor offers unparalleled reading and browsing speeds. BeBook Neo’s powerful battery allows up to 7000 page turns on a full charge.
Unique features.
- Easy eBook store access: Simply go to the Neo eBook portal and a world map will appear. Just click on your country and you will see a clear overview of third party eBook stores. The best part is that YOU decide where YOU want to purchase eBooks.
- Connect to the Internet through WIFI. Besides shopping for eBooks online, you can access Google and Wikipedia on the go.
- The BeBook Neo is the fastest eReader currently on the market. Offering up to 2,5 times faster browsing and operating speeds, due to its powerful Freescale processor.
- The Neo features the latest WACOM touch panel technology, which provides a very fast and more natural reading experience. The touch screen allows you to use your BeBook Neo for sketching, annotations and text mark-up: ideal for educational and business purposes.
- The open architecture of the BeBook Neo makes it possible to expand its capabilities. Keep an eye on www.bebook.net.au for firmware updates. We have some very cool features planned for the near future.
Popular file formats. Just like our previous models most popular file formats can be read, including ‘ePub’ and ‘PDF’ (both with and without Adobe DRM), txt and even popular picture file formats, like JPG, are included.
The BeBook Neo is available for pre-order on www.bebook.net.au.

I had the BeBook mini, but just also ordered the Neo. I will be Beta testing this for them, can’t wait. Keep you posted on my experience.
I had a play with the BeBook mini as well. V small and light. I think the Neo will be a more polished product. When does the beta phase start? I can let others know.
Just an ereader that we were waiting for. Access to multiple stores is fear for all of us, better than being stuck to Amazon only with you Kindle.
I hope the Neo’s battery life is long indeed. I already pre-ordered one
Nice one, Tjeerd. I agree – I think this is the way things are going to go. Assuming the epublishing industry has learnt anything from the music DRM debacle… JD
